On Friday morning, the Pokémon Company hosted a Pokémon Presents livestream to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. During the event, the company debuted a new New Pokémon Snap trailer and announced two new games, including highly-anticipated remakes of Diamond and Pearl.
New Pokémon Snap
New Pokémon Snap is officially hitting Nintendo Switch on April 30 later this year. The trailer showed gameplay, including the enhanced photo editing mode. In addition to more robust editing, New Pokémon Snap also has online connectivity to make it easier for players to share their footage and creations. The lineup of Pokémon looks diverse, and the trailer showed elemental and environmental changes players can capture in-game to make their adventure even more exciting.
New Pokémon Snap is available for pre-order now.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The rumors were finally true and the Pokémon Company has officially announced Diamond and Pearl remakes, which were released on Nintendo DS in 2006. However, the remakes are developed by ILCA Inc. and not GameFreak, even though Diamond and Pearl‘s original director, Junichi Masuda, is working alongside ILCA’s Yuichi Ueda.
There’s no exact release date for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl just yet, but the video did announce a target window of late 2021. Pre-orders are available now.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
In addition to the Diamond and Pearl remakes, the Pokémon Presents announced another long-desired project for many fans: an open-world RPG.
Like Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Legends: Arceus also takes place in the Sinnoh region. The twist is that it’s during the region’s feudal period, way before the events of Diamond and Pearl. The starter Pokémon are Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott, and the game tasks the player with creating Sinnoh’s very first Pokédex. Gameplay has been compared to Breath of the Wild for many fans after the trailer dropped, as it featured the player character wandering through large open fields and encountering free Pokémon in the wild in a 3D environment.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to release in early 2022, but pre-orders are already available.
