2020 has been A YEAR! So many things have changed and we’ve had to adapt because we have no other choice, it’s what we do as a species. One of those changes has been how film festivals all around the world operate, and the Toronto International Film Festival is no exception. Like many others, TIFF 2020 has gone virtual, providing screening, lectures, conferences and interviews online through that great invention known as the World Wide Web (I’m feeling a bit nostalgic).
Though I miss the charged atmosphere of hundreds of people walking around the festival area in downtown Toronto, chatting with fellow critics about the films we’ve seen and hope to see, making my chicken scratch notes in the dark and interviewing creatives in person, I won’t complain about being able to watch films from the luxury of my setee. Watching films in the cinema is an experience we all enjoy, but we have no choice, so embrace the change.
As I’ve done for previous TIFFs I’ll be covering it on behalf of So Here’s What Happened! as accredited press, which means I’ll be tweeting my initial reactions of the films (#SHWHTIFF20), write reviews and hopefully produce some great interviews for the podcast. Below is a list of some of the projects I’m most looking forward to from TIFF 2020.
