In a livestream on Thursday morning, Xbox showed off over 20 new games and console launch exclusives coming to their upcoming console, the Xbox Series X. Every game from the stream this morning will be available for Game Pass at launch and most will have Smart Delivery options as well, letting you upgrade your Xbox One version to a Series X version for free, including already-released games like Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, and Sea of Thieves.
Overall, Xbox says there will be over 100 games available for the Series X this Holiday season. Today’s showcase included games from nine of their 15 studios and five new first-party games. The company will have more to share later this year.
The full list of announcements is listed below.
The stream began with 10 minutes dedicated solely to Halo Infinite, the next highly anticipated entry in the Halo series. Viewers got their first glimpse at real gameplay, including some beautiful cutscenes and shots of the world. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Halo demo without a significant amount of time showing off the first-person gunplay, as well as vehicles and new features.
The new features include a grappling hook, which is briefly demonstrated during the demo, and an open world map. According to the video, Halo Infinite is the most ambitious Halo game yet, giving players the freedom to explore a mysterious new Halo ring that is several times larger than the last few Halo games combined.
The game has more complex visual effects than ever before, 10 times the processing power per pixel than Halo 5, and will run at 60 FPS.
The first look at multiplayer will come later this year. Halo Infinite is slated to arrive Holiday 2020.
The rumors were true and Fable‘s back. The trailer is incredibly short but does feature that beloved Fable humor. According to IGN’s post-show, the game is a reboot of the series and not technically Fable IV.
State of Decay 3
The third entry in the State of Decay series has been announced with a new trailer.
The next Forza game is currently in development from the team at Turn 10 Studios. It will have ray tracing and a native 4K resolution at 60 FPS. Everything from the trailer was captured in the game engine.
Everwild is a new game from Rare and focuses on the magical connection between life and nature.
Tell Me Why
Tell Me Why is an upcoming game from Dontnod Entertainment, the creators of Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2. The game focuses on the relationship between a brother and sister as they attempt to uncover the truth about their mother.
Chapter One of Tell Me Why will be available on August 27.
You might be asking yourself, “Wait, didn’t Ori and the Will of the Wisps already come out?” The answer is yes, but it’s getting a brand new special version specifically made for the Xbox Series X. It will have better frame rates and fidelity and upgraded audio technology to make the game look even better and feel more immersive than ever before.
This special version will be available later this year and will include Smart Delivery upgrades.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon
Peril on Gorgon is a planned story expansion for The Outer Worlds, which was originally released in October 2019. The expansion will release on September 9.
Grounded is an upcoming game from Obsidian Entertainment in which you play as tiny, shrunken human beings just trying to survive in the dangerous world of a front yard. Grounded was by far the funniest trailer of the showcase and anyone interested in the game can try it out on July 28 on Xbox Game Preview or Steam Early Access.
Avowed, also from Obsidian Entertainment, is the studio’s upcoming RPG based in a medieval fantasy world. It’s being built from the ground up for the Xbox Series X.
As Dusk Falls
As Dusk Falls is an original interactive drama from Interior/Night, a brand new studio. The game takes place over 30 years in the American southwest and focuses on how your actions impact relationships and the fate of others around you.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
The sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, is being built in Unreal Engine 5 for the Xbox Series X. It’s set in Iceland and new details about development can be found in a brand new entry into Ninja Theory’s Dreadnought Developer Diaries.
Psychonauts 2 got a new trailer featuring an original song written by composed Peter McConnell and sung by actor and streamer Jack Black.
Destiny 2 is coming to both Xbox Series X and Game Pass later this year and all current expansions will be available in September. Plus, if you have Game Pass Ultimate, the game will be playable on mobile via xCloud.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the enormous addition coming later this year, is being built from the ground up for Xbox Series X. It launches on November 10, 2020.
There’s not much to say here but Stalker 2 exists and has a trailer.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
This is about the same. Not much to say but there is a video.
Tetris Effect: Connected
Decades later, the Tetris franchise is still going strong. Tetris Effect: Connected is a console launch exclusive and adds a more optimized single-player experience, as well as a new multiplayer mode, to the PlayStation 4 exclusive game from 2018.
It’s pretty self-explanatory. Clean up gunk in this console launch exclusive!
Fans already saw The Medium in Xbox’s last event, but more details were given in today’s showcase.
The Medium revolves around the idea that there are two sides to every story. And two worlds. And these two worlds are rendered simultaneously to provide dual reality gameplay, fully demonstrating the power of the Series X.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is an upgraded version of the recently released Phantasy Star Online 2. It’s also a console launch exclusive coming in 2021.
Audiences got their first look at the campaign for CrossFire X. Unlike other games shown today, there was a disclaimer that the single-player campaign will not be available on Game Pass and will require a separate purchase. The multiplayer, however, does seem like it will still launch on Game Pass or at least be free-to-play.
