Crunchyroll, the world’s most popular anime brand, has been rolling out the hits with it original content. Most recently, Tower of God captivated fans, but now that season one of that series has wrapped, the company premiered the first full trailer and new key art for Onyx Equinox, the upcoming Crunchyroll Original series.
The series follows a young Aztec boy named Izel who is saved from death by the gods and is chosen to act as ‘humanity’s champion,’ forced to discard his apathy toward his fellow man and prove humanity’s potential. The trailer (featured below) gives fans a first look at Izel’s epic journey, which will take him across ancient Mesoamerica to save humanity from a war between the gods. Onyx Equinox is a Crunchyroll Studios Production created by Sofia Alexander.
While we don’t have a set premiere date, this series has been my most anticipated anime of the year after it was first announced. After 2019’s Seis Manos from Powerhouse animation, the standard for telling stories with brown characters has been set high. And I for one, have hopes that Onyx Equinox will meet them.
Onyx Equinox is set to hit Crunchyroll in 2020.
