Gryffen: Galaxy’s Most Wanted #11

Gryffen: Galaxy’s Most Wanted #11 is published by Starburns Industries Press, written by Ben Kahn, with art and colors by Bruno Hildago, colors assists by James Peñafiel, and letters by Sal Cipriano. At the end of the previous issue, Telika and the rest of Gryffen’s crew found their way onto Admiral Hunter’s ship in order to rescue their captain. Now, Telika and Gryffen must work together and fight their way through the ship and the various officers on board to escape.

Gryffen: Galaxy’s Most Wanted #11 is an action-packed adventure from the first page to the last. During their escape, Telika and Gryffen run into Admiral Hunter after the sleeping gas proved to be ineffective against her. This fight scene features some excellent and creative panel designs from Hildago. His unique style fits the kooky and over-the-top narrative from Kahn. Many of the panels that feature key moments have solid color backgrounds. This not only helps clue readers in on the crazy events occurring but also breaks up the pages in an interesting way and allowing readers to focus on the action. In addition, Hildago and Peñafiel’s colors are bright and engaging all on their own.

The only qualm I have with the issue is that the final reveal, and what Gryffen did, was a tad confusing. Cipriano’s letters were also blurry at points but I think that has more to do with the digital copy I received than Cipriano’s traditionally excellent work. That being said, neither of these complaints are enough to deter my enjoyment of the issue and I am still looking forward to the next one.

Taking inspiration from Star Wars and even The Fifth Element, Gryffen: Galaxy’s Most Wanted is a must-read for any science-fiction fans. Every character from Gryffen’s wacky personality and preference for violence to Dao’s soft-spoken manner is engaging and interesting all on their own.

Overall, Gryffen: Galaxy’s Most Wanted #11 is another excellent issue that continues the wild ongoing narrative of the science-fiction series. While the issue itself is mostly action, the humor woven in keeps it interesting. Additionally, the conclusion at the end proves to be another bombshell that will change everything going forward.
