Melissa Meszaros and Ren Varney announced the launch of their new publicity firm, Don’t Hide PR, which specializes in comics promotion. Don’t Hide PR works with creators to get the word out about their upcoming published work on a sliding scale, featuring packaged and à la carte offerings to fit anyone’s budget.
Don’t Hide PR’s Founder and Publicity Director, Melissa Meszaros, has been a publicist for almost 20 years. First in the music industry, Melissa moved to film promotion with Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) in 2015 where she worked with filmmakers and actors such as Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Frank Coniff and Trace Beaulieu, Colin Hanks for All Things Must Pass, and Ti West for In a Valley of Violence.
In 2016, she took a position as Publicity Manager at Dark Horse Comics and then moved onto Oni Press as a Marketing Assistant, advancing to PR Manager and then Director of Publicity until 2019. She has proudly promoted and publicized works like Margaret Atwood’s Angel Catbird, Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s Black Hammer, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts, the Rick and Morty comics series, and Katie O’Neill’s The Tea Dragon Society. Most recently, she worked with Insight Comics to implement a comprehensive campaign for the launch of Mike Allred and Steve Horton’s BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams.
A former full-time musician, Don’t Hide PR’s Business Manager, Ren Varney, has turned his penchant for entertainment into business strategy. From retail to tattoo galleries and Bigfoot research, Ren brings his passion for creativity and knowledge of media to put a modern spin on comics promotion.
“For me, it’s all about the creators—they do all the hard work,” said Melissa Meszaros. “I have a deep admiration for the passion they put onto the page and the bravery they have to put their artistic abilities into the world. I’m just lucky enough to be here, waving the flag, to support it!”
