Highlights from the September 2019 Nintendo Direct Announcements

September Nintendo Direct

Nintendo’s September Nintendo Direct focused on 2019’s slate Nintendo Switch games, including Overwatch Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword &  Sheild and much more. It also brought release dates for titles announced at the E3 Nintendo Direct, more gameplay, and even peaks at what’s coming in 2020. Take a look at the highlights below.

Overwatch is coming to the Nintendo Switch

Overwatch is officially coming to Nintendo Switch and is slated for release on October 15 opening the Blizzard phenomenon to the a whole new section of gamers.

New Pokemon Sword & Shield Features Revealed 

New features for Pokémon Sword & Shield included new character customizations, new Pokemon, and more.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the new addition to the popular Animal Crossing series launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch March 20, 2020.

SNES Games & Controller Coming to the Nintendo Switch 

Feel all of the nostalgia of the SNES with the wireless Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller and a catalog of 20 classic SNES games, like Super Mario World, Kirby’s Dream CourseStar Fox and much more. Available for Nintendo Switch Online members on September 5.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 Floors Revealed

Every floor in Luigis Mansion 3 has a specific theme and are full of surprises. Some themes include a pyramid inside the hotel, a disco floor, and a pirate-themed restaurant hat you get explore when it drops this Halloween.

Super Kirby Clash is NOW on Nintendo Switch 

A new free-to-start Kirby game for Nintendo Switch with Super Kirby Clash, available now.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition 

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has been announced for Nintendo Switch, and it’s coming in 2020, a remake that has JRPG fans beyond excited. 

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is Coming

Originally released in 2002, the full single-player experience of Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast coming to the Nintendo Switch later this month on September 24. 

Trials of Mana HD Remake is Coming

A full HD remake of Trials of Mana will be available on Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2020. In this RPG the combo of characters you select will decide which story you experience. 

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

With a featured Amiibo, The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening is coming to the Nintendo Switch on September 20th (along with the Switch-Lite). Using the new Link Amiibo, you can add Shadow Link to your Chamber Dungeons when the game launches.

Assassin’s Creed Rebel Collection Is Confirmed for Switch

The Assassin’s Creed: Rebel Collection was confirmed for  Switch and it will be released on December 6, with re-orders starting today, September 5th. The release includes two games, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag along with the latter’s DLC.

Return of the Obra Dinn 

After five years of being declared lost at sea, the Obra Dinn trade ship comes into port with a missing crew. Turn back the clock with the Momento Mortem pocket watch and uncover the mystery when Return of the Obra Dinn comes to Nintendo Switch this fall.

Banjo & Kazooie Now Available on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate  and More DLC Fighters Confirmed

It was announced earlier this year that the newest DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be Banjo & Kazooie and as of yesterday, they are now available to play. The Direct also confirmed that five more fighters are on their way, with one of the next fighters being Fatal Fury‘s Terry Bogard.

Rogue Company

Hi-Rez Studios is bringing a new IP, Rogue Company, for the Nintendo Switch. Rogue Company is a multiplayer shooter with an arsenal of mercenaries, guns, and game modes, there is always something to master. From the makers of Smite and Paladins, it’s sure to bring the multiplayer fun.

Announced New Ports and Remasters 

In addition, Nintendo also confirmed new ports and remasters that are coming to the Nintendo Switch this year:

  • Divinity Original Sin 2, was a surprise release on Switch is currently available and complete with cross-save features
  • Doom 64, which is seeing its first re-release on a Nintendo console later this year for Switch
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore, a remaster of the Wii U game
