Ever since I stumbled across my first episode of Dragon Ball Z and picked up a volume of Sailor MoonI knew I was hooked into the fandom. From awesome art styles and complex storytelling anime and manga have been a huge part of my love of pop culture. Even to this day, I love writing manga reviews and do an anime podcast with my friend so we could have an excuse to talk about it with each other more. Needless to my love of anime and manga truly knows no bounds. So you could imagine how excited I was when I heard about Animanga 2019.
Animanga 2019, is organized by anime and gaming enthusiasts who wanted to hold a convention that represented cosplayers and gamers, with a particular focus on anime and Japanese pop culture. It will be held this upcoming Friday through Sunday, August 2– 4 at the Fairplex Exposition Complex in Pomona, California. It will feature a huge arcade, vendors, tournaments, retro gaming consoles, special guests, tabletop games, and more.
Animanga’s Marketing Director, Dennis Gonzalez said, “We wanted to offer a convention that focused on bringing the anime, cosplay, and gaming communities together, while also providing a fun, safe and open atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, for all ages.
This year attendees will be able to enjoy and explore over 100,000 sq ft of Exhibitors, Artist Alley tables, food vendors, and participate in events throughout the weekend convention. Including autograph signings by popular industry professionals, live music and panels, as well as attendees showing off their cosplay costumes will add to the excitement of the event. The guest list includes voice actors such as Alejandro Saab and Kaiji Tang, cosplayers such as Alex Drastal and iWood, and YouTube influencers such as Lost Pause and CDawgVA.
Animanga 2019 sounds like it will be an awesome experience for anime fans, old and new alike. While I, unfortunately, will be dealing with an intense case of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and won’t be able to attend Animanga this year. However, I will say it is on my must-do list and I look forward to hopefully attending it in the future.
Online pre-registration for Animanga 2019 is available on the Animanga website until August 2nd. Badge purchases will also be available at the door, though for a slightly increased price.
