My Top Highlights from NYCC 2018

Reading Time: 4 minutes

New York Comic Con was a few weeks ago but it still feels like yesterday to me. This was my first experience at a convention with a press pass and what I experienced will follow me forever. Whether you are still coming down from the high of such a great convention or recovering from con crud, take a look back at some of my top highlights from this year’s NYCC.

Tales of Arcadia: 3Below Panel

Guillermo del Toro surprised the audience of the panel with a pilot episode of Tales of Arcadia: 3Below. 3Below follows Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters and has Diego Luna and Tatiana Maslany as the main voice talent for the series. Glenn Close showed up as a surprise guest to the panel to introduce her character in the series and she brought her dog. Based on the reaction to the pilot episode, we can expect a very fun adventure when 3Below premieres on December 21st. All three seasons of Trollhunters is streaming on Netflix.

Mark Ruffalo Goes Undercover

Mark Ruffalo only stopped by NYCC on Thursday before appearing on Jimmy Fallon that night. However, he made the most of his day on the convention floor. Ruffalo cosplayed as Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls and grabbed some epic photos with Jason Momoa, who was there to promote Aquaman. This is the Marvel and DC crossover I’ve always wanted.

What We Do in the Shadows Panel

I loved the movie when it came out so of course, I got excited when it was announced that there would be a series of the same name and style. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement are still going to be involved in the series with directing and writing but they also hinted at a potential cameo in the show. We were gifted with a pilot episode and it was just as funny and clever as the movie. You can read more about my coverage of the panel here.

Interviewing the Cast of Man in the High Castle

This was my first experience with an official press interview. I got to talk to the cast of Man in the High Castle and pick their brain on what we can expect from season 3 of the series. I’m a huge fan of the show and it was so cool to talk to the people that make the show as incredible as it is. Season 3 is out now and you can read about my interview with the cast here and here.

Neil Gaiman Surprises Fans at Good Omens Pop-Up

Good Omens panel was very exciting but, the Good Omens pop-up, “The End is Nigh”,  on the show floor offered even more of an adventure. I got to experience this pop-up myself and I loved the interactivity of it. You are waiting for an elevator that can either take you to Heaven or Hell. It’s a fun experience because the elevator operator is completely random with their choice. Luckily, I made it to Heaven.

The best part of the pop-up was when Neil Gaiman himself showed up to operate the elevator. Fans were excited about having their fate chosen by the author of Good Omens. Gaiman was also at the Good Omens panel and revealed two clips from the show as well as a teaser trailer for the series.

NYCC was an incredible experience and I am so glad I got to be a part of it. This ends my coverage of the convention but I’ll be taking these experiences with me for a long time. I’m already looking forward to next year’s NYCC.
