We are a few days away from one of NXT’s biggest events of the year, NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV. The past three events held in New York have given us 5-star matches, such as Bayley vs Sasha Banks, Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens, and Aleister Black vs Hideo Itami. It’s often the case that many fans look forward to seeing the event rather than Summerslam, which takes place the following day. That might be the same case this year, but Summerslam has a few promising matches. However, I have no doubt that the matches happening at NXT will be spectacular. Fans will get to see the continuation of a brutal rivalry between two former best friends, two former indie superstars fighting for a title, a rematch between two talented women, and much more. Without any more delay, here is all you need to know about the fourth installment of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.
Matches and Predictions
EC3 vs The Velveteen Dream
This match originated during the second night of the United Kingdom Championship Tournament that took place on June 19th. EC3 and The Velveteen Dream were set to take on Aleister Black and Ricochet in a tag team match. During the final moments of the match, the Dream walked out on EC3, causing them to lose the match. Since then, both superstars have been feuding, which resulted in their match on Saturday. At just 22 years old, the Dream has had some incredible matches and has won the hearts of many NXT fans. EC3 had an amazing run while he was in Impact Wrestling (formerly known as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling) and even became World Champion. While this is the first match, I have no doubt that it will quickly grab the attention of everyone watching and will be a fantastic match. They’re not fighting for any championship, but I’m willing to bet that the winner will get a future opportunity for either the NXT Title or the North American Title in the coming weeks. Regardless, both superstars will end up winning the NXT Championship before they’re called up for the main roster.
Prediction: The Velveteen Dream wins. He’s shown that he has what it takes to be champion and will make an impact with any belt that he holds.
North American Champion Adam Cole vs Ricochet
At every TakeOver event, there is usually one match that will have fans talking about for a long time. I truly believe that this might be that match on Saturday. They have faced each other during their time in New Japan Pro Wrestling and even in NXT during the 6-man ladder match that happened in April. Adam Cole has achieved huge success, even before coming to WWE. He was a member of the Bullet Club from 2016 – 2017 and was the first wan to be a three-time Ring of Honor World Champion. Ricochet has won numerous championships over the years and has become the man who can do the impossible. Seriously, just look up how athletic and amazing wrestler he is. Since arriving at NXT, he’s sought to prove that he’s more than “a man who can do flips”. He has amazing matches in just a few short months, including his showdown with The Velveteen Dream at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. But on Saturday, he’s looking to dethrone Adam Cole and win his first championship while being a part of the WWE.
Prediction: It doesn’t make sense to be for Adam to lose his championship after only defending it one time. With that in mind, I do think that Adam Cole wins this match. But I’m sure that this feud is far from over.
NXT Tag Team Champions “The Undisputed Era” vs “Mustache Mountain”
If you haven’t seen the previous matches between these two teams, you’ve been missing out. They’ve put on some fast-paced matches that have redefined the tag team division at NXT. Having captured the NXT Tag Titles after losing them to Mustache Mountain a few weeks ago, the Undisputed Era is looking to continue their reign of dominance. Rodrick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly have amazing chemistry together and have carried those titles well. But Mustache Mountain is looking to add their names on the list of two-time tag team champions. But before I get to my prediction for the winner of the match, I just have to say that Mustache Mountain is one of the greatest tag team names I’ve ever heard. Ha-ha!
Prediction: It would only make sense to have Strong and O’Reilly lose the titles if they were moving up to the main roster. But I don’t think they would be moved without Adam Cole, who is also a part of the faction. Because of this, I have to go with The Undisputed Era retaining their titles.
NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Blaszer vs Kari Sane
Blaszer and Sane have wrestled before during the finals of the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament back in October 2017. Kari Sane was victorious and became a part of the NXT women’s division. They fought once again earlier this year, where Shayna won after delivering a brutal blow to Sane. Their rematch was bound to happen at some point, and it makes it more impactful that the women’s title is on the line. Shayna has ruled over NXT with dominance and has proven that she was born to be a champion. Though her matches haven’t really appealed to me, I can’t deny that she has talent. Kari Sane has won the hearts of many NXT fans and has lived up to the name of “The Pirate Princess”. These two are completely opposite, both in styles of wrestling and personalities. It will be interesting to see how this match plays out.
Prediction: Blaszer has been dominant even before she was champion. However, she has beaten almost everyone on the women’s roster. It wouldn’t make sense to have her retain the title unless they were looking to extend their feud. But I think it’s about time that Kari Sane was given a chance to be champion, which is why she’s my pick to win the match.
NXT Champion Tomaso Ciampa vs Johnny Gargano (Last Man Standing Match)
The storytelling of this match has been off the charts. Honestly, this may just be one of the best feuds in NXT history. Former best friends turned enemies, Ciampa and Gargano face off once again in a Last Man Standing match. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the rules of the match, the main objective is to beat your opponent to the point where they cannot get up after the referee’s count of 10. This is the first time this match stipulation has been seen in any NXT event. This match was supposed to be a triple-threat match that included Aleister Black, but Black suffered a real-life injury. He was written out of the match with during a segment that took place last week, which is also when the match stipulation was changed. The hatred between these two men is so believable and intense, which has made their matches elevate to the such a high level of excellence. I encourage you to look up how their rivalry came to be and what has transpired in their battles.
Predictions: This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Gargano is the heart and soul of NXT. He makes you want to cheer for him without even demanding for the praise. But Ciampa has played heel so well that it makes you want to root for him. The aura of NXT is completely different since he became champion, which is something that many people fail to accomplish once they win a title. The constant boos and chants that he gets to add to his character and seems to make him that much more spectacular. The perfect booking for this match would be for Gargano to win the title but then lose it to Ciampa at another TakeOver event. After that loss, he would move up to either Raw or Smackdown. It would be the worst mistake that WWE could make if they move him to the Cruiserweight division. But regardless, I’m going with Johnny Wrestling winning this match. It’s about time he becomes champion!
With all these matches going on, it would be a shame if any wrestling fan misses out on seeing them. They are sure to deliver moments of amazement, awe, and an overall sense of excitement. Make sure you don’t miss out of the event, which starts at 7 ET/4 PT on the WWE Network.
